“It is only when you’ve had the opportunity to do an apprenticeship you realise the long-term benefit. Anyone who’s had that experience will have appreciated the skills they learned”. Sir Alex Ferguson.
This year is the 10th anniversary of the National Apprenticeship Week, a scheme co-ordinated by the National Apprenticeship Service. This scheme is designed to celebrate apprenticeships and traineeships and the positive impact they have on individuals and employers. At Reed in Partnership we like to praise the achievements of our members who have participated in our programmes and our staff on their journey to helping people into work.
An apprenticeship is a great way of kicking off your career. Starting an apprenticeship means you can start working and earn a good wage while you learn all the skills you need to gain the qualifications future employers are looking for. Here at YES we give you all the help you need to get started in an apprenticeship. We offer you your own friendly adviser, exclusive opportunities, CV and interview help and financial support. Ever since the YES programme started we have meet some incredible young Londoners and we are proud to see how they have progressed since finding work through the programme.
When we first met Amin he had been out of work for 6 months and had been struggling to find a sustainable full time job. In the beginning Amin was apprehensive about joining the programme “I didn’t know what to expect, but I also thought it sounded really promising.” Amin struggled with his confidence having been declined for roles on numerous occasions. However, from working with his employment advisor Amin began to gain more self-confidence. At first Amin was looking for entry level administrative roles however with our coaching Amin decided to apply and eventually land his dream apprenticeship in logistics. “The apprenticeship is so beneficial and a huge opportunity for me; I’m in the best place I can be. I am now waking up every day knowing I am working in a field that I love, enjoy and find challenging. Without the guidance and support from Mark, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
Damir was a full-time carer for a family member before joining the YES programme. Damir was keen to start working again, but was unsure of what career to pursue. As Damir had been out of work for a while he struggled to apply for jobs and was unsure of what outlets to use. Through help from his employment adviser Damir was taught how to confidently apply for jobs online and which types of jobs suited his skill set. Once equipped with a newly revamped CV, Damir secured an interview for a Digital Marketing Apprenticeship. Through our financial support Damir was able to buy suitable interview clothing and a few days after his interview was offered the apprenticeship. “I’m more than a month in to my apprenticeship, and it feels really good to be employed”.
“I would 100% recommend the YES programme to other young people.”
